NSC Celebrates Revival of Sports Facilities Nationwide

Nigeria is undergoing a significant revival in sports infrastructure, as noted by the Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Bukola Olopade, on 15 September 2026. He credited both state and federal governments for their coordinated efforts to rebuild stadiums, pitches, and community facilities across the country.

Olopade pointed to the impressive transformation of the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna, which has been concessioned to the state government, describing the renovations as “gobsmacking” and “amazing.” He also praised the ongoing infrastructure initiatives in Bayelsa State under Governor Douye Diri and highlighted Delta State's contributions. The NSC has awarded contracts for national stadiums and community facilities, with ongoing projects expected to generate employment for thousands of young Nigerians.

In Ogun State, a new training pitch has been commissioned at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena, and rehabilitation work has begun at the historic Muda Lawal Stadium to modernize it. Olopade emphasized the importance of these developments for athlete growth, community engagement, and economic growth.
