NSCDC Enhances Security in Oyo Farming Areas with Agro-Rangers

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), under the leadership of State Commandant Augustine Padonu, has initiated the deployment of Agro-Rangers to protect farming communities in Oyo State. During a courtesy visit from the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Ibadan, Padonu revealed that the Corps has established operational bases in these communities and is considering expanding its presence to key locations for better security coverage.
The NSCDC currently has over 2,000 personnel, 78 divisional offices, and 11 area commands across Oyo State, along with specialized units like the Counter-Terrorism Unit. Padonu emphasized the need for stronger collaboration among security agencies, community leaders, and the media to effectively address issues such as kidnapping and banditry.
He also highlighted the importance of responsible journalism in security management. NUJ Chairman Yinka Adeniran praised the Corps for its efforts, particularly in securing the return of abducted victims in Orire Local Government Area and its outreach under the Safe School Initiative, which has reached approximately 65,000 students.
