Oyo Sugar Factory Begins Test-Running Phase with NSDC Support

The Oyo Sugar and Derivatives Industries Limited factory in Iseyin, Oyo State, has reached the commissioning and test-running stage, as announced by the National Sugar Development Council (NSDC). This milestone follows over a decade of financial, technical, and institutional support from the NSDC.
The factory, which has a capacity of 300 tonnes per day, was developed under the Nigeria Sugar Master Plan and is part of the Backward Integration Programme. The NSDC funded the procurement of the factory’s core sugar mill at a cost of approximately N1.64 billion, with total financial commitments reaching about N2.2 billion, including additional funding for cane development and operational support.
The Oyo State Government contributed around N850 million in equity funding for the completion of outstanding works. Kamar Bakrin, Executive Secretary/CEO of the NSDC, stated that the factory's readiness is a result of sustained commitment from the council, the Oyo State Government, and the promoters, emphasizing the NSDC's ongoing engagement as the factory transitions to full-scale commercial production.
