NSDC Launches Sugarcane Outgrower Programme to Boost Local Production in Nigeria

The Nation Sugar Development Council (NSDC) has introduced the Sugarcane Outgrower Development Programme (SODP) as part of the Nigeria Sugar Master Plan II to boost domestic sugar production and reduce reliance on imports. The initiative targets to integrate smallholder farmers into the sugar value chain, ensuring fair participation and steady market access.

The program will provide support measures like off-take agreements, quality inputs, and training to improve production practices. NSDC's head grower manager, Lade Offurum, highlighted the engagement of three farmer categories nationwide.
