NSIB Investigates Challenger 604 Door Loss During Flight

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has begun an investigation into an incident involving a foreign-registered Challenger 604 aircraft operated by Triton Aviation. The aircraft, registered as T7-SEI, departed Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja at 16:12 UTC on Thursday, heading to Lagos.
Approximately three nautical miles from the airport and while climbing through 3,500 feet, the crew issued a “Mayday” call after a door separated from the aircraft. The aircraft returned to Abuja and landed safely on Runway 22 at 16:34 UTC, carrying nine individuals, including three crew members and six passengers.
The Challenger 604 is registered in San Marino, a microstate in Southern Europe. The NSIB, led by Director-General and Chief Executive Officer Alex Badeh Jr, reported that the missing door has been recovered and secured at its wreckage hangar.
The bureau is investigating the circumstances surrounding the occurrence.
