Shallipopi Performs 'Laho' for Oba of Benin in Palace Visit

On Friday, Nigerian singer Shallipopi, whose real name is Crown Uzama, visited the Oba of Benin, Ewuare II, in Benin City, Edo State. This visit was significant as it symbolized a homecoming and respect for cultural roots.

During the visit, the Oba requested a live rendition of Shallipopi's popular song "Laho," which the singer performed without musical instruments, joined by members of the royal court. Shallipopi, 25 years old, knelt in respect to the Oba, offering traditional prayers and blessings during his visit.

This occasion also included a commitment to visit an orphanage and hospital during his stay in Edo State. "Laho," released in 2025, is regarded as Shallipopi's biggest hit, gaining widespread popularity both locally and internationally, blending Afrobeat with indigenous Edo expressions. This was not Shallipopi's first visit to the palace; he had previously visited in 2024 alongside fellow Edo-born artist Rema.
