Obasanjo Supports Peter Obi as Push for Joint Ticket with Kwankwaso Grows in ADC

Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo is supporting Peter Obi's presidential ambition for the 2023 elections, as efforts intensify within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to potentially field a joint presidential ticket with Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso for the 2027 elections. Obasanjo is believed to be in favor of a broader opposition coalition and sees Obi and Kwankwaso as a viable alternative to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

While the push for the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket cuts across party lines and includes senior opposition politicians and power brokers, the idea is still under debate within the ADC and has not been formally adopted. Obasanjo's long-standing support for Peter Obi is well-known, and the move has attracted interest from various opposition factions, including within the People's Democratic Party (PDP).
