Obasanjo Advocates Health Screenings to Combat Cancer

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo emphasized the importance of regular health screenings to manage and detect diseases such as cancer and diabetes during the launch of the Lagos World Expedition initiative in Abeokuta. This initiative aims to raise awareness about prostate cancer, especially among black men in sub-Saharan Africa, where it is a leading cause of cancer-related deaths.

Obasanjo shared personal experiences, having managed diabetes for 40 years, and stressed the significance of lifestyle choices, including diet and exercise. He highlighted the need for annual medical check-ups, particularly for individuals aged 60 and above, to catch early symptoms of diseases.

Erik Nwagwu, founder of the initiative, dedicated the expedition to his late mother and sister, both of whom succumbed to cancer. The expedition will involve a circumnavigation of the globe, starting with a journey to Accra and Senegal, promoting health screenings and awareness along the way.
