Ogun State Expert Advocates Vocational Studies for Out-of-School Children

Adedamola Lapit, the Ogun State Coordinator of the Child Protect Network (CPN), laments the rising rate of out-of-school children in the country and calls for a policy shift towards vocational studies. Lapit emphasized the need for a total policy shift to train children in vocational and talent-driven studies.

The CPN, in collaboration with other stakeholders, organized a talent hunt program in Abeokuta to engage children and discover their interests beyond formal education. Adijat Adeley, representing the Ogun State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, highlighted the state government's efforts to address the challenges faced by street children, including provisions in the 2026 budget for capacity building and support initiatives.

Ajala Adenik, the Director of Child Development Services, revealed that the government is actively working with stakeholders to address the issues faced by street children. Adeley advised young children not in school to recognize their talents and value for the future.
