Okpebholo under fire over alleged nepotism in Edo University VC appointment

Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo is facing criticism from the Etsako Consciousness organization over the appointment of Victor Olawale as the Vice-Chancellor of Edo State University in Iyamho. The group alleges that the selection process was biased and lacked merit, with the university governing council favoring Olawale despite another candidate, Ganiyu Oboh, an indigene of Etsako, reportedly performing better in the screening exercise.

The organization claims that the council, chaired by Olusegun Akinyinka, was influenced by nepotism and ethnic bias, as well as being dominated by individuals of Yoruba descent. They have called on Governor Okpebholo to investigate the selection process, emphasizing Oboh's impressive track record and warning that overlooking qualified indigenes could erode morale.

The group stressed the importance of prioritizing merit in leadership appointments to maintain the integrity of the institution and respect for the local community.
