Dr. Ogbondeminu Appointed Medical Director for Okpekpe Race

The Okpekpe International 10km Road Race has appointed Dr. Sam Ogbondeminu as its first World Athletics-certified Medical Director, as confirmed by Race Director Zack Amodu.

This decision follows World Athletics' directive to have certified medical personnel oversee sanctioned road running events. Dr.

Ogbondeminu, who completed his certification in Madrid in April, is affiliated with Nigeria's National Institute for Sport. He has previously served as the head of the medical anti-doping sub-committee for the 2024 African Games in Accra, Ghana, and is expected to fulfill a similar role for next year's edition in Egypt.

The Okpekpe race, which has been held annually in Edo State since 2013, was the first in West Africa to receive World Athletics label status in 2015. Dr.

Ogbondeminu's appointment is a significant step towards ensuring compliance with regulatory standards for road races in Nigeria.
