Political Science Must Adapt to Modern Challenges, Says Olaopa

During the 35th conference of the Nigerian Political Science Association (NPSA) held at the University of Ibadan, Prof. Tunji Olaopa, the chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission, urged political science scholars to make the discipline relevant to modern realities.

He spoke on Wednesday at the opening ceremony, which featured prominent scholars, including the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Prof. Kayode O.

Adebowale, and NPSA President, Prof. Hassan Saliu.

Olaopa highlighted the necessity for political science to engage with real-world issues such as poverty, insecurity, and unemployment. He called for a rebranding of the discipline to ensure it transcends traditional academic boundaries and fosters collaboration with civil society organizations and grassroots movements.

He stressed the importance of adapting the curriculum to include artificial intelligence and practical skills that prepare graduates for the workforce. The conference aims to address critical challenges facing the Nigerian state and enhance the discipline's legitimacy and relevance.
