Collaboration Essential for Adaptive Education Systems

In an interview, Dr. Modupe Adefeso-Olateju, Managing Director of the Education Partnership Centre, discussed the necessity for collaboration among governments and stakeholders to build adaptive and resilient education systems in Nigeria.

She stressed that education should remain people-centered, focusing on meaningful outcomes rather than just enrollment figures. The Education Partnership Centre, established in 2013, aims to address educational reforms in Nigeria and across Africa, emphasizing the importance of learning outcomes.

Dr. Adefeso-Olateju highlighted the need for a participatory approach in assessing foundational learning skills, involving 40,000 children across 21,600 households and 2,000 schools.

She noted that reforms are most effective when they are rooted in local realities and supported by African-led initiatives. Furthermore, she raised ethical concerns regarding the integration of artificial intelligence in education, advocating for caution to ensure that it enhances rather than undermines human judgment and agency in educational contexts.
