Omah Lay Claims Title of Afrobeats Greatest Artist

In a recent interview with Capit Xtra, Nigerian singer Omah Lay reiterated his claim of being the greatest Afrobeats artist of the decade. He expressed dissatisfaction with the current state of the genre, stating that many artists are not genuinely developing their craft.

This assertion is not new for the Port Harcourt-born artist, who previously made similar claims on the Nandoleak podcast, where he acknowledged Burna Boy as a fellow artist but maintained that his own work stands out. Omah Lay's sophomore album is set to be released on April 3, 2026, which he describes as the greatest Afrobeats album of all time.

He also highlighted his successful debut, which reached the No. 1 spot on Spotify's global album debut chart, garnering 16,727,400 streams in its first week and topping Apple Music's Nigeria chart.
