Ondo Police Arrest 14 in Poisonous Drink Investigation

The Ondo State Police have arrested 14 suspects in connection with a poisonous drink incident that has claimed several lives in the community. The arrests were made during a coordinated enforcement operation ordered by Commissioner of Police Felix Ohagwu, aimed at curbing the production and distribution of dangerous alcoholic drinks.

Police Public Relations Officer DSP Abayomi Jimoh reported that the operation was conducted by the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) across Ore and Odigbo. Among those arrested is Oloruntoba Babatunde, known as “Meko,” who is allegedly involved in the production of substances suspected to contain methanol.

Samples of these substances have been sent for forensic analysis to establish their link to the fatalities. The police are conducting post-mortem examinations to determine the causes of death and have intensified medical responses in the affected area.

The case has been transferred to the State CID in Akure for further investigation, with detectives visiting Araromi-Obu on September 12 to gather additional evidence.
