Onuesoke Urges Concession of Benin–Sapele Highway

Chief Sunni Onuesoke has renewed his call for the concession of the Benin–Sapele Highway, emphasizing the urgent need for intervention from the Edo and Delta State governors. He described the highway as a strategic economic lifeline that connects Edo and Delta states and serves as a major transit route for business and commuter transport across the South-South region.

Onuesoke lamented the highway's significant deterioration over the years, which has led to increased travel times, frequent accidents, vehicle damage, and rising transport costs, negatively impacting traders, farmers, and industries reliant on this corridor. He proposed that a credible private investor structure through a public-private partnership (PPP) arrangement could ensure sustainable rehabilitation and maintenance of the highway.

Onuesoke urged the Edo State governor to advocate for urgent action and engage with federal ministries to expedite the concession process. He also stressed the importance of selecting technically sound and financially capable concessionaires to guarantee quality delivery and sustainability of the project.
