Ooni of Ife Celebrates 52nd Birthday with Vigil

His Imperial Majesty Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, marked his 52nd birthday with a Christian praise and worship vigil at his palace in Ile-Ife on the night of October 16, 2026, extending into the early hours of October 17. Videos from the event circulated on social media, showing the Ooni engaged in worship, dressed in white traditional attire with beads and a white cap.

He was seen standing and singing, later resting on a golden chair as worship continued. The atmosphere was deeply spiritual, with attendees, including queens, visibly praying.

The event was characterized as a royal celebration rather than a public concert, emphasizing the religious aspect of the night. The vigil ignited a debate regarding the Ooni's religious identity, as many found it notable for a traditional custodian to lead a Christian worship session.

Reactions varied, with some expressing criticism and others offering appreciation for the event.
