OPay Launches Emergency Lock and Safety PIN for Security

OPay, a leading fintech company in Nigeria, has introduced two new security features: Emergency Lock and Safety PIN, designed to provide users with greater control over their finances during unexpected situations. The Emergency Lock feature allows users to freeze their OPay accounts instantly with a single tap if they sense a threat, such as suspicious activity or being in an unfamiliar environment.

Once activated, the account remains frozen for 24 hours, blocking outgoing transactions, including transfers and bill payments. Importantly, the freeze cannot be removed by anyone, including OPay customer service, until the security period expires.

The Safety PIN feature enables users to set a unique PIN that can be discreetly entered to trigger the same 24-hour account freeze, allowing users to protect themselves without drawing attention in potentially dangerous situations. Dotun Adekunle, Chief Operating Officer and Chief Technology Officer of OPay, stated that these innovations reflect the company's commitment to enhancing customer safety as digital payments grow in Nigeria.
