Osimhen Reflects on Childhood Poverty and Drive to Succeed

Victor Osimhen, a 27-year-old forward, recounted his challenging childhood in the Olusosun slum area of Lagos, Nigeria, where poverty defined his early years. Following the death of his mother, his father lost his job as a driver, forcing the family of seven to survive on meager earnings from menial jobs.

Osimhen vividly remembered nights when their landlord cut off power, leaving them in darkness, and instances when the landlord removed part of their roof under the pretext of repairs. The family resorted to scavenging for scraps and taking on various jobs to make ends meet.

Despite these hardships, Osimhen's experiences fueled his relentless drive for success in professional football. His determination was evident during Nigeria's 4-0 AFCON win against Mozambique, where he expressed frustration over denied passes.

Recently, he acknowledged feeling humiliated by social media mockery after missing a penalty for Napoli, reflecting on how his challenging upbringing has shaped his character and performance.
