Osun Government Removes Traditional Ruler Over Fraud Conviction

The Osun State Government has officially removed Oba Gbenga Joseph Oloyed Apetumodu from his position as traditional ruler of Ipetumodu due to his conviction for fraud in the United States. The announcement was made on Tuesday by Kolapo Alimi, who disclosed that the decision followed a legal review and was approved by the state executive council.

Apetumodu was reportedly sentenced in a U.S. court in 2025. The government stated that the removal was necessary in light of the conviction and has withdrawn all instruments of authority previously issued to the monarch, including his staff and office.

The stool of Ipetumodu has been declared vacant pending the commencement of the traditional process to fill the vacancy, and security agencies have been directed to maintain law and order in the community. Residents and stakeholders have been urged to remain calm and peaceful during this transition.
