Over 1 Million Nigerian Children Back in School Amid Reforms

The Federal Ministry of Education, led by Dr. Tunji Alausa, reported that over one million out-of-school children have returned to classrooms in Nigeria as part of ongoing education reforms aimed at improving access to education.

This announcement was made during the 2026 Annual Education Summit held in Abuja. Despite this achievement, Dr.

Alausa acknowledged that millions of Nigerian children remain outside the formal education system, emphasizing the need for reliable data to address these challenges. The ministry is collaborating with the National Bureau of Statistics to conduct a nationwide household survey to determine the actual number of school children, guiding future interventions.

The reforms under the Tinubu administration also focus on expanding technical and vocational education and improving the quality of education. Prof.

Suwaiba Ahmad and Dr. Aisha Garba reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring every Nigerian child has access to quality basic education, highlighting the importance of data-driven approaches in policy-making.
