NSITF Reports Over 7.8 Million Workers in ECS

Mr Oluwaseun Faleye, the Managing Director/Chief Executive of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF), announced that over 7.8 million workers have enrolled in the Employees’ Compensation Scheme (ECS). This announcement was made during the Policy Dialogue session of the 2026 National Pre-Retirement Summit in Abuja.

The NSITF is transitioning from isolated registration to sustained participation through partnerships with federal institutions, state governments, and employers in the informal economy. The ECS aims to protect workers from employment-related injuries, occupational diseases, disabilities, and death, while offering compensation, medical care, and rehabilitation support.

Faleye highlighted the significance of integrating Treasury-funded Federal MDAs, noting that claims payments began on 4 August 2026. He emphasized that mere registration is insufficient for protection, advocating for compliance that ensures timely benefit payments.

Faleye also stressed the importance of family visibility in social protection design and the need for shared responsibility among the state, institutions, employers, and workers.
