DSS Reveals Owo Church Attack Planned in Kogi State

On Tuesday, the Department of State Services (DSS) provided fresh details in a federal high court in Abuja regarding the Owo Catholic Church attack, which occurred during a Pentecost Sunday service, resulting in 40 worshippers killed and over 100 injured. The DSS testified that the attack was carefully planned during a meeting held on May 30, 2022, at a secondary school in Ogaminana, Kogi State.

The meeting was coordinated by a terror leader identified as Odoba, who allegedly issued direct orders for the attack. The DSS is prosecuting five suspects—Idri Abdulmalik, Omeiza Al Qasim, Jamiu Abdulmalik, Abdulhaleem Idri, and Momoh Otuho Abubakar—who are accused of belonging to an Al Shabab terrorist group operating in Kogi State.

Evidence presented by prosecuting counsel Ayodeji Adedip revealed that the suspects had arranged for weapons and conducted surveillance around the church prior to the attack. The court proceedings were adjourned until Wednesday to allow defense counsel to cross-examine witnesses.
