Three days following the August 15 Osun State election, Bola Oyebamiji—the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for governor—publicly confirmed his acceptance of the electoral results. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared victory for Adeleke of the Accord Party, who secured 511,067 votes compared to Oyebamiji's 444,815.
On Tuesday, Oyebamiji conveyed this stance via a social media statement. In addressing how the poll had concluded, Oyebamiji acknowledged INEC's official declaration while expressing appreciation toward those who backed his campaign efforts.
He neither contested the outcome nor raised any claims regarding electoral impropriety. The candidate's relatively rapid concession came shortly after Nigeria's political landscape had absorbed significant attention devoted to this gubernatorial race.
Separate from accepting the electoral outcome, Oyebamiji voiced concerns regarding what he termed an uptick in violent episodes directed at APC members and their supporters since voting ended. He directly urged both state authorities and law enforcement agencies to intervene against the reported escalating hostility.
These allegations of post-election aggression constitute a distinct matter from the gubernatorial result itself, revealing political tensions that persist within the state following the completion of voting. Oyebamiji's two-pronged approach—conceding the race while simultaneously advocating for protective measures—attempted to combine gracious acceptance with protection of his party's interests.
His remarks targeted APC supporters, party members, and leadership throughout Osun, signalling simultaneous resolution regarding electoral matters and emphasis on security priorities. The victory by incumbent Governor Adeleke represents continued Accord Party control of the governorship following the August 15 contest.
