Adeleke Accuses Oyetola of Sabotage in Osun State Local Government Crisis

Ademola Adeleke, a prominent figure in Osun State, has accused former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of weaponizing federal institutions, particularly the Nigeria Police Force and Unity Bank, to undermine the democratic governance of the state. Adeleke made these allegations in a state broadcast, highlighting the illegal occupation of local government secretariats by court-sacked Progress Congress chairmen and councillors aligned with the APC. Despite court orders to vacate their offices, these officials have refused to comply, allegedly with the backing of the police.

Adeleke further revealed that statutory allocations to Osun State's local governments, totaling N130 billion, have been unlawfully withheld by the federal government. He criticized the complicity of international banks in facilitating these illegal actions and called for intervention to restore the rule of law. Adeleke also highlighted the dire consequences of the withheld funds, including unpaid salaries for teachers, health workers, and local government employees for almost a year.

In a plea to President Bola Tinubu, Adeleke urged for intervention to stop the alleged sabotage and uphold democracy in Osun State. The situation underscores a deepening political crisis and governance challenges in the state.
