Oyo Commissioner Olayiwola Urges Parents to Support Education

On September 22, the Oyo State Government called on parents in Oriire Local Government Area to remain committed to their children's education amid ongoing student absences at Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, due to a recent abduction incident. Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Olusegun Olayiwola, made this appeal during a visit to rescued learners and teachers in Ahoro Dada.

He engaged with various stakeholders, including parents and traditional rulers, to discuss measures for the safe return of students to school. Olayiwola noted that the school had not resumed for the new academic session and directed officials to facilitate the return of affected learners to prevent an increase in out-of-school children.

He also requested the Director of Basic Education to collaborate with the Nigerian Baptist Conference to support the school, which is privately owned. Traditional ruler Oba Tajudeen Abisoye expressed support for educational activities but raised concerns about military personnel using the Primary Health Centre for accommodation.
