Oyo State Impounds 10 Cows for Illegal Grazing

The Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority (OYRLEA) impounded 10 cows in the Arola area of Apete, Ibadan, due to alleged illegal open grazing and environmental nuisance. This enforcement operation was conducted on Tuesday, following a petition from local residents regarding cattle rearing in a densely populated neighborhood, which included complaints about animal waste disposal, noise, and air pollution.

The enforcement team, led by Honourable Justice Aderonke Aderemi (retd.), verified the complaints early Tuesday morning and confirmed evidence of open grazing, violating the Oyo State Open Rearing and Grazing Regulation Law, 2019. Eight cows were seized at the location, with two additional cows captured while the team returned from the operation.

OYRLEA clarified that the enforcement was not aimed at legitimate livestock owners but focused on compliance with the law to protect residents from health and safety risks. The authority reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing the law and encouraged residents to report violations.
