UN Envoy Urges Oyo Governor to Apologize to Kidnapping Victims

Jimoh Ibrahim, a United Nations envoy, has called on Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to demonstrate empathy by publicly apologizing to the victims of recent kidnappings, which included schoolchildren and a teacher. Ibrahim described the government's failure to provide adequate security as a significant issue and congratulated Nigeria on the safe release of kidnapped pupils.

He stressed that the governor should prioritize the welfare of the victims' families rather than seeking international intervention. Ibrahim stated that the United Nations does not interfere in the internal affairs of member states and that domestic security incidents are primarily the responsibility of the government.

He urged Makinde to express genuine sympathy and provide necessary support for the recovery of the victims. Ibrahim also appealed for additional financial support for the affected families and emphasized the need for the state government to treat security as a collective responsibility, investing in measures to strengthen collaboration with security agencies to ensure safe learning environments for children.
