Oyo Sugar Factory Nears Inauguration with NSDC Support

The Oyo Sugar and Derivatives Industries Limited (OSDL) factory in Iseyin, Oyo State, is prepared for commissioning and test-running following over N2.2 billion in financial support from the National Sugar Development Council (NSDC). This 300-tonnes-per-day (TCD) greenfield sugar mill was developed under the Nigeria Sugar Master Plan (NSMP) and is one of the few new sugar factories resulting from the Backward Integration Programme.
The NSDC funded the procurement of the factory’s core sugar mill at approximately N1.64 billion and provided additional funding for sugarcane development and operational support, totaling around N2.2 billion. The Oyo State Government contributed an estimated N850 million in equity funding.
Kamar Bakrin, Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the NSDC, stated that the factory's readiness for commissioning reflects the sustained commitment of all stakeholders involved. The NSDC plans to continue supporting OSDL as it transitions to full-scale commercial production, emphasizing the importance of locally grown sugarcane for Nigeria's sugar industry.
