PDP Prepares for 2,500 Delegate Convention in Abuja

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) is preparing for a convention on March 29-30, 2023, expecting 2,500 delegates to attend. Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, confirmed the arrangements while inspecting the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, the venue for the event.

He downplayed ongoing legal challenges and expressed optimism about the party's future, stating that reconciliation efforts among aggrieved members will continue beyond the convention. Wike highlighted the importance of accommodating the diverse interests within the party, noting that while not everyone can be satisfied, the overall goal is to maintain unity.

The party has already distributed positions across regions to ensure balanced representation. The convention comes amid a protracted leadership crisis within the PDP, which has seen factions emerge and legal battles ensue, particularly following a controversial convention held in November 2022 that produced Kabiru Turaki as a member of the National Working Committee.
