Peace Corps Nigeria Calls for Action Against School Banditry

The Peace Corps Nigeria (PCN) raised grave concerns about the continued invasions by bandits targeting educational institutions across Nigeria. During a media conference in Abuja, Dickson Akoh, the National Commandant of the Peace Corps, lamented the wanton attacks on schools, which he stated could induce severe psychological trauma and pervasive fear among students.

This situation, he warned, jeopardizes the future of Nigerian youth by escalating insecurity across the country. Akoh highlighted the frequent kidnappings of staff and students and called for the deployment of Peace Corps personnel to educational institutions to tackle these challenges.

He proposed a layered security framework that integrates grassroots monitoring and a robust early warning system to detect and mitigate threats. The initiative aims to establish a proactive community-driven presence within schools and colleges to safeguard lives and property.

Akoh urged appropriate authorities to consider the Peace Corps' role in combating banditry in schools to protect the educational future of the nation.
