Pérez Re-elected as Real Madrid President Amid Challenges

Florentino Pérez has secured re-election as president of Real Madrid, defeating Juan Román Riquelme in an election held on Sunday, with Pérez declared the winner shortly after midnight. Riquelme subsequently conceded defeat and congratulated Pérez.

The election took place amid scrutiny over Real Madrid's recent performances, including two consecutive seasons without major football trophies. Pérez's campaign emphasized reaffirming support from club members despite opposition and concerns regarding the potential sale of a part of the club to external investors, which contradicts Real Madrid's long-standing 100% member ownership structure.

Pérez, who is beginning his eighth term as president, has overseen the club's success, winning 76 trophies across football and basketball, including seven UEFA Champions League titles. He also announced the return of José Mourinho as head coach and expressed ambitions to win a record 16th UEFA Champions League title.
