Peter Obi Criticizes Nigeria's Exclusion from IMF's Fastest-Growing Economies List

Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, expressed concern over Nigeria's absence from the IMF's list of Africa's fastest-growing economies, attributing it to misaligned priorities and governance issues. The IMF's latest report during the World Bank and IMF annual meetings in Washington D.C. revealed that countries like Benin Republic, Côte d'Ivoire, Ethiopia, Rwanda, and Uganda are leading in economic growth in Sub-Saharan Africa.

IMF's African Department Director, Abebe Selassie, highlighted the region's projected growth of 4.1% in 2025 and a slight increase to 4.2% in 2026, driven by macroeconomic stabilization and reform efforts.
