Peter Obi and Dele Momodu Demand Release of El-Rufai

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), and Dele Momodu, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), have renewed their calls for the release of Nasir El-Rufai, the former Governor of Kaduna State, who has been in custody since February. Obi's media aide, Idris Zekeri, stated that Obi has consistently advocated for due process regarding any allegations against El-Rufai, arguing that he should not be unlawfully detained without a proper court case.

Zekeri mentioned that Obi has publicly addressed the issue, asserting that no Nigerian should endure extended detention without charges. El-Rufai is currently held by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), which claims that court orders support his detention.

El-Rufai is contesting aspects of his detention and the ongoing proceedings against him. A Federal High Court in Abuja has reserved judgment on his no-case submission related to the alleged unlawful interception of communications belonging to National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, with a ruling set for October 26.

Additionally, El-Rufai's ₦1 billion fundamental rights suit against the ICPC and others has been adjourned until October 27.
