Dangote Refinery Holds 631M Litres of Fuel Amid Import Decline

As of August 2026, Dangote Petroleum Refinery had a closing inventory of 630.9 million litres of refined petroleum products, according to the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA). This stock included 360.4 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol), 137.2 million litres of automotive gas oil (diesel), and 133.3 million litres of aviation turbine kerosene (aviation fuel).

During August, average daily petrol imports decreased by 26% from 19.7 million litres in July to 14.6 million litres. However, domestic petrol receipts increased by 39%, rising from 25.8 million litres per day in July to 35.9 million litres in August.

The total petrol receipts in Nigeria increased by 11% from 45.5 million litres per day in July to 50.5 million litres in August, with domestic receipts exceeding imports by 21.3 million litres per day. The Dangote refinery accounted for approximately 71% of the country's total petrol receipts in August, supplying nearly 36 million litres daily and achieving an average capacity utilization of 105.21%.
