Rising Petrol Prices Cause Hardship for Nigerians

The recent fluctuation in petrol prices in Nigeria has sparked significant hardship among residents, particularly due to increased transport costs. Reports indicate that fuel prices at various stations in Abuja have risen to between N1,261 and N1,444 per liter, with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) selling at N1,364 per liter.

This increase has led many commercial vehicle owners to park their cars, unable to afford the high fuel costs, resulting in fewer commercial vehicles operating and stranded commuters at bus stops. Civil servants like Mr.

Zainab Idri have expressed their struggles, stating they cannot afford transport to work or food. Business owners, including Mr.

Aliyu Hassan, noted that rising transport costs are making essential goods increasingly unaffordable for low-income households. Calls for government intervention to stabilize fuel prices have intensified, with suggestions for investing in alternative energy and mass transit systems to alleviate the financial burden on citizens.
