NAPE Advocates for Enhanced Oil Recovery Strategies in Nigeria

The Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE) has advised oil and gas operators to adopt integrated subsurface evaluation and real-time drilling intelligence, drawing from ND Western's experience with the Utor-40 well in the Utorogu Field, Oil Mining Lease (OML) 34, Delta State. Dr. Christopher Asuquo-Jackson, Head of Geoscience at ND Western, presented this case study during NAPE's September technical/business meeting.
Initially, ND Western planned to complete Utor-40 targeting the E14 reservoir with a forecast of 2,000 barrels of oil per day. However, after drilling the pilot hole, they discovered nine hydrocarbon-bearing reservoirs, prompting a reevaluation of their strategy.
This led to the identification of an additional saturated reservoir with a primary gas cap, allowing for a revised completion plan that increased production by an additional 300 barrels per day, bringing total delivery to over 2,000 barrels per day with minimal incremental costs.
