PFN Urges Tinubu to Reject FRSC Amendment Bill 2026

The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to withhold assent to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Amendment Bill, 2026. During a briefing after the PFN's third-quarter National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Lagos, PFN National Secretary Bishop David Bakare expressed that the proposed legislation, which seeks to ban preaching in commercial vehicles, is discriminatory and specifically targets Christians.

While acknowledging the FRSC and National Assembly's efforts to enhance road safety, the PFN argued that the legislation is unnecessary and could exacerbate religious tensions in Nigeria. The PFN emphasized that there is no evidence linking preaching in commercial vehicles to road accidents and stated that if distractions are a concern, all forms should be addressed equally.

The organization also raised concerns about the bill potentially awaiting presidential assent without completing the legislative process and urged Tinubu to return the bill for wider consultation with stakeholders to avoid perceptions of restricting religious freedoms.
