Abuja–Lokoja Highway Traffic Due to Gwagwalada Bridge Repairs

On Monday, significant traffic congestion occurred on the Abuja–Lokoja Highway due to the ongoing repairs of the Gwagwalada bridge, which involved the closure of one lane. This disruption forced many motorists, including civil servants and schoolchildren, to spend several hours in traffic.

Reports indicated that some individuals resorted to trekking long distances to reach their destinations. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed that the congestion was caused by the dismantling of a temporary steel fortification on the bridge.

They urged road users to maintain lane discipline and drive responsibly, especially with the Sallah celebration approaching, which is expected to increase vehicular movement. The FRSC also advised motorists to exercise patience and remain calm while cooperating with security agencies deployed to manage traffic compliance and prevent accidents during this busy period.
