Oluremi Tinubu Promotes Home Gardening for Food Security

On a Tuesday, Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady of Nigeria, conducted a routine visit to the vegetable garden at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where she harvested fresh vegetables. This garden, established two years ago, is part of her initiative to promote home gardening as a means to enhance food security in Nigeria.

The garden yields various vegetables, including spinach, waterleaf, and pumpkin. Following the harvest, she distributed part of the produce to her staff, reiterating the importance of home gardening for households across the country.

The initiative aims to encourage families, especially women, to cultivate their own vegetables, thereby reducing food costs and improving nutrition. The vegetable garden was unveiled in July 2024 as part of a broader campaign to inspire hope and promote sustainable agricultural practices amid rising food prices.
