Suo Chapele: SuperSport's Pidgin World Cup Commentator

Suo Chapele is a notable pidgin commentator for SuperSport, recognized for her engaging commentary style during major sporting events, including the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup. She has drawn comparisons to popular comedian Anita Asuoha, known as Real Warri Pikin.

Chapele, born into a family of 18 in Warri, Delta State, has a strong cultural background and was encouraged by her late parents, Chief Oletu and Mr. Helen Nneka Chapel, to pursue sports.

She attended various schools, including Nana Primary School and Ladi High School, before proceeding to the University of Benin and John Moores University. Her interest in football began in childhood, and she credits Chisom Mbonu Ezeok for inspiring her to enter sports commentary.

Chapele began her career in pidgin commentary in 2010 and has since become a fixture in covering the English Premier League, La Liga, and other major tournaments. She has also been invited to participate in a Berlin Museum exhibit alongside renowned commentators.

Chapele holds a chieftaincy title in the Ovi Udu Kingdom, making her the first woman to receive this honor traditionally passed from father to son.
