Plateau State Launches Committee for Airport Upgrade

On a recent date, Plateau State Governor Samuel Jatau inaugurated a private sector-driven technical committee at the Government House in Little Rayfield, tasked with fast-tracking the upgrade of Yakubu Gowon Airport. This project is deemed critical for boosting agro-export and tourism development in the state.

The committee's formation aligns with ongoing investments, including the establishment of a Special Agro-Processing Zone (SAPZ) funded by the African Development Bank, designed to enhance the export of agricultural products. Jatau emphasized the need for efficient airport services to support the anticipated influx of goods and passengers, particularly as the tourism sector expands through public-private partnerships.

He urged committee members to commence work immediately and submit recommendations within two months to enable the government to meet its obligations. The committee aims to revamp the airport's infrastructure, addressing long-standing agricultural challenges in Plateau State, which, despite being agrarian, suffers from a lack of logistical frameworks for moving products to local and international markets.
