Agora Policy Launches Platforms for Local Government Accountability

On Thursday, Agora Policy unveiled two critical digital platforms in Abuja to enhance public accountability within Nigeria's local governments. These platforms, the Local Government Area (LGA) Portal and the Policy Registry, were developed with support from the MacArthur Foundation.

They aim to empower the Nigerian public with tools to actively participate in the policy space and hold policymakers accountable. The LGA Portal serves as a searchable repository for federal account allocations to 774 local government areas since May 1999, tracking a total of 3.88 trillion Naira across 322 months.

This initiative addresses the lack of transparency and accessibility of information regarding local government funding, which has historically been difficult for citizens to obtain. The Policy Registry aims to consolidate fragmented policy documents across various sectors, making them accessible in a standardized format.

Agora Policy's efforts represent a significant step towards improving civic engagement and accountability in Nigeria's governance landscape.
