Oyo Police Arrest Two for Possession of Live Cartridges

On October 6, 2026, the Oyo State Police Command arrested two suspects, Ganiyu Sodiq, aged 35, and Salaudeen Sheriff, aged 23, for unlawful possession of live cartridges. The suspects were apprehended in Budo Pako, Oyan, where a total of 250 live cartridges were recovered.

According to DSP Ayanlad Olayinka, the police spokesperson, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects could not provide a satisfactory legal explanation for their possession of the recovered ammunition. The police believe the suspects may be involved in illicit trafficking and supplying ammunition to criminal elements operating within and beyond the state.

Ongoing intelligence-led investigations aim to dismantle a wider network and identify possible collaborators. CP Abimbola Olugbemiga reiterated the command's commitment to combating the proliferation of illegal arms and ensuring public safety.

The suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue, and they will be charged in court upon conclusion of the investigations.
