Police Clear Officers in Ibadan Graduate Shooting Case

The Oyo State Police Command has refuted claims that Inspector Gbenga Ayodele and Sergeant Ayilaran Boluwaji shot Nurudeen Azeez, an Ibadan Polytechnic graduate, during an armed robbery response on August 16, 2021. A statement from the police, issued by spokesman DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, referenced a 2021 investigation that found no link between the officers and the shooting.

The incident occurred around 9 PM when Ayodele and Boluwaji were on duty near Koltol Hotel, responding to a report of armed robbers. Forensic evidence revealed that the two AK-47 rifles signed out by the officers had not been fired, and the pellets extracted from Azeez were inconsistent with AK-47 ammunition.

A locally fabricated pistol was recovered at the scene, which showed signs of recent discharge, but it could not be linked to the officers. The investigation concluded that the allegations against the officers were unsubstantiated, although Azeez sustained a genuine gunshot injury.
