17 Police Officers Killed in Yobe Terrorist Attack

On May 8, 2026, a coordinated terrorist attack at the Army Special Forces School in Buni Yadi, Gujba Local Government Area, Yobe State, resulted in the deaths of 17 police officers. The attack occurred in the early hours and involved multiple directions of assault, leading to intense confrontations between the attackers and security personnel.

The Nigeria Police Force, through its Deputy Commissioner of Police, Anthony Placid, confirmed the tragic loss of life during the operation. Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu described the fallen officers as courageous and dedicated, highlighting their commitment to national security and counter-terrorism efforts.

He conveyed condolences to the families of the deceased officers and assured that their sacrifices would not be forgotten. The Inspector General also emphasized ongoing collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the Armed Forces to bring those responsible for the attack to justice.
