POWA and Police Urge Child Protection Reforms in Abuja

On the 2026 International Day of the Girl Child, a celebration held in Abuja, the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) collaborated with the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA) to advocate for child protection reforms. Mrs Mutiat Olufumilola Disu, the National President of POWA, urged stakeholders to enhance child protection policies, enforce laws against child marriage, and ensure vulnerable girls have access to education and healthcare.
Represented by Mrs Zainab Isyaku Mohammed, Disu emphasized the importance of families raising boys who respect girls and called for communities to abandon harmful practices. CP Sarah Ehindero, the Commissioner of Police in charge of Administration at the Force Criminal Investigation Department, highlighted that protecting children is a statutory responsibility of the Police.
She identified factors increasing girls' vulnerability, such as poverty and gender discrimination, and stressed the need for prevention and community engagement. Rasheedat Ajibade, captain of the Super Falcons and founder of the Rasheedat Ajibade Foundation, encouraged girls to pursue education and seek help when facing threats.
