Expert Critiques Nigeria's Education and Leadership Failures

Dr. Peter Ogudoro, the founder of the Nigerian Teacher Community, addressed the issues of poor leadership and a failing education system in Nigeria during Geoffrey Nebo's 20th anniversary public lecture in Lagos. He stated that these factors are significantly slowing the country's development despite its vast human and natural resources.

Ogudoro highlighted the urgent need for a paradigm shift in the education system to harness Nigeria's potential and empower its youth. He noted that while Nigerian youth have a strong desire for higher education, the current system fails to provide quality access, leading to disillusionment.

Ogudoro criticized the over-reliance on charity rather than sustainable empowerment programs and called for collaboration among stakeholders to build an effective education system. He also pointed out the challenges posed by inadequate power supply, which hampers business and healthcare delivery.

Ogudoro cited the example of Lagos State under former governor Babatunde Fashola as evidence of how effective leadership can transform society.
