CAN President Blames Poor Leadership for Nigeria's Issues

On September 15, 2026, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), addressed the 2026 Annual National Management Conference of the Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered) in Abuja. He attributed Nigeria's socio-economic underdevelopment to poor management of its human and natural resources, weak institutions, and leadership deficits.

Okoh emphasized that Nigeria possesses abundant resources, intelligent individuals, and innovative ideas but lacks the discipline, integrity, competence, and courage to manage these assets effectively for the common good. He noted that the country faces challenges such as corruption, insecurity, and declining public confidence in institutions.

Okoh urged political leaders and management professionals to prioritize integrity and accountability in resource management. He also highlighted the Church's role in promoting responsible management, referencing the biblical Parable of the Talents to stress the importance of wise stewardship of resources.
