Pope Leo XIV Warns of AI Dangers During France Visit

Pope Leo XIV issued a warning about the dangers of artificial intelligence, cautioning against “losing our humanity amid a paradise of machines” during his remarks at the Élysée Palace in Paris on the first day of his four-day visit to France. The pontiff's comments came after discussions with French President Emmanuel Macron.

He stressed the importance of ensuring that technological progress does not undermine human values and dignity. The visit is expected to attract large crowds, with over half a million people anticipated to attend Mass in Paris on Saturday.

An altar has been set up at the Place de la Concorde, and security measures are in place around the Champs-Élysées. Macron will not attend the Pope’s Masses due to France's separation of church and state, but his wife, Brigitte Macron, and Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu are expected to be present.

Pope Leo declined a meeting with artisans involved in the Notre-Dame Cathedral reconstruction due to a tight schedule. He will also meet about 80,000 young people at the Stade de France and conclude his visit in Metz, where he will honor Robert Schuman.
